Remember booting up your translucent iMac in the late ’90s and finding yourself face-to-face with a jetpack-wearing dinosaur? If you were lucky enough to own a Mac during the Pangea Software era, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Nanosaur wasn’t just a game—it was an experience that defined an entire generation of Mac gaming.

Now, I’m bringing that nostalgic magic back in an entirely new medium: comic books.

The Vision Behind Bleakheaven Comics’ Nanosaur

At Bleakheaven Comics, we’re not just creating another video game adaptation. We’re crafting a speculative evolution story that asks: What if intelligent dinosaurs inherited the Earth?

The Nanosaur comic explores a post-human world where descendants of these prehistoric creatures scavenge technology from fallen civilizations, building their own society among the ruins. It’s a blend of retro gaming nostalgia, hard sci-fi worldbuilding, and stunning visual storytelling that captures the spirit of that 1998 classic while pushing the narrative into bold new territory.

Our goal is ambitious: successfully crowdfund the project on Indiegogo to raise $5,000 and build a loyal fanbase that will support Bleakheaven’s future releases. But more than that, we want to create something that resonates with the kid who played Nanosaur on their Power Mac G3 and the new generation discovering these stories for the first time.

Marketing in the Wild: A Multi-Platform Strategy

Creating great content is only half the battle. Getting it in front of the right eyes? That’s where the real adventure begins.

Our marketing strategy for Nanosaur is as multifaceted as the story itself:

Physical Presence: We’re partnering with local game and comic shops for launch events, complete with retailer kits featuring posters, QR codes, and limited-edition mini-prints. There’s something powerful about bringing digital nostalgia into physical spaces where fans naturally congregate.

Digital Storytelling: Through TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, we’re creating short-form content with VHS filters and CRT scanlines that hit those nostalgia notes. Timelapsed drawing videos, ’90s-style gameplay footage, and behind-the-scenes peeks into the creative process.

Community Engagement: Reddit communities like r/retrogaming, r/macgaming, r/vintageapple, and r/comicbooks are goldmines for authentic conversation. The key? Engage first, promote second. Share the creative process, ask questions, provide value—then invite people into the story.

Influencer Outreach: We’re connecting with retro gaming YouTubers like LGR (Lazy Game Reviews), RetroManCave, and comic reviewers who understand the cultural significance of what we’re creating.

Why This Matters

In an age of reboots and remakes, there’s something special about taking a beloved piece of gaming history and reimagining it through a completely different lens. Comics offer a unique opportunity to expand worlds, explore character depth, and build narratives that couldn’t exist in their original medium.

But this project goes deeper than nostalgia. When you support Bleakheaven Comics, you’re:

Supporting Local Business: This is a homegrown Salt Lake City creative venture. Every comic sold, every event attended, every share on social media helps a local creator continue doing what they love right here in our community.

Championing Indie Comics: The indie comic scene is where the most innovative, personal, and boundary-pushing stories emerge. Without the constraints of major publishers, creators like Bleakheaven can take risks, explore unique narratives, and build direct relationships with their readers. Your support keeps this vibrant ecosystem alive.

Making a Difference: Bleakheaven Comics partners with Stand for the Silent, an incredible anti-bullying organization dedicated to ending bullying in schools and communities. When you engage with this project, you’re not just getting an amazing comic—you’re contributing to a cause that protects young people and creates safer, more inclusive spaces for everyone.

This project represents the intersection of nostalgia and innovation, community and creativity, passion and purpose.

Let’s Create Something Amazing Together

Whether you’re launching a comic book, promoting a local business, or building a brand from scratch, the principles remain the same: know your audience, tell authentic stories, and meet people where they are—both physically and digitally.

If you’re working on a project that needs strategic marketing with heart, let’s talk. I specialize in helping creators and businesses cut through the noise with campaigns that combine nostalgic appeal, community engagement, and multi-platform storytelling.
